2023 Ironman Ranked Wrestlers by Weight

We keep building toward the best in-season tournament of the year. We looked at the ranked wrestlers per school yesterday.

You can check that out here: https://thetakedown.media/2023-walsh-ironman-preview-all-ranked-wrestlers/

Now, we have them all broken out by weights. Of course you’ll notice a few things that just come with the territory of wrestling coverage. 1) Multiple guys from the same team at a weight. Ironman doesn’t allow that, so we’ll eventually see where they slot in. For now, I have them where I had them immediately following Super 32. 2) Guys at weights they won’t be competing in now that the season started. Basing rankings off a major event like Super 32 makes sense because we see hundreds of kids at one place against each other. However, once the season starts, we see movement. I expect that to be true here as well. So, with about 10 days to go, we’ll just have to deal with that the best we can.

For the rest of the content leading up to next weekend, hopefully I can get even more accurate entries for the full preview.

As for the weights, 150 leads the way with 14 out of 25. 144 comes next with 13.

106, 126, 144, 157, and 175 feature the top 2 in those weight classes. In the matter of 126, we have the top 4 in the same bracket, and 7 out of the top 10.

When compared to Super 32 there are definitely weights that will prove tougher here. 126 is one. 144 is another one. 150 of course, assuming Duke is healthy now. With football season over for most, 285 also has many more from the top 10 here. And then 175 is easily the biggest jump in quality from Greensboro to Cuyahoga Falls.

As mentioned, I’ll be back with a more in depth preview of the entire event.
