National Rankings March 18, 2024

With all the state tournaments done, and the season over, here are the final rankings: top 25 + an additional 10 honorable mentions at each weight. The honorable mentions are in alphabetical order by state.

I have always looked at larger events with more importance, knowing that athletes come in hoping to be at their best. I look at the state finals the same way. It is the last event of the year, and the tournament that means the most in each state. How a season finishes for a wrestler carries the most weight. Then the rest of the season plays a role where it’s close.

Of course there are off-season events, a whole freestyle and greco scheduled, and there will be updated rankings after the major events.

Congratulations to all the wrestlers who made it through the season and reached the goals they had set for themselves. My first season in the rankings arena and I think it went well and I look forward to continuing to grow into the most trusted source.

Only wrestlers who competed in the end of the year state tournament or national prep tournament qualify for this final set of rankings.

Only wrestled matches count for me. Tyler Guerra (138) entered the post season in the top 10 and got hurt in the 2nd round. He was winning at that time and a huge favorite in the bracket. He stays in place. Marco Christiansen (190) was up on the eventual Minnesota state champion when he got hurt but he was in the HM entering the post season so he stays there. These are just 2 examples.

I’ve said before, I try to do these not so much to be predictive – like #5 beats #12 – but rather descriptive – a snapshot of where each weight stands at the present moment.
