Coming in with 24 nationally ranked wrestlers, the Buckeye State continues to be among the nation’s best. As we’ve discussed in previous breakdowns, the battle for the #2 spot behind PA is a year-by-year thing. This year that spot appears to be held by California but there is a strong case for Ohio being that 3rd state in the top 5.

As expected, D1 leads the way with 17 wrestlers out of the 24. D2 has 5, and D3 has 2. 

The weight with the most Ohio wresters in the top 25 is 144. While there are 4 total here, they are spread out among the divisions. 2 are from D1, and they were the finalists. And then there’s one each from D2 and D3.

Two is the most from a single division at any weight. 138 and 157 are the 3 weights without an Ohio wrestler included. Kade Brown and Eugene Harney would be the top candidates at each of those weights respectively.

Everyone ending the season in the top 25 entered there before the state tournament. The biggest riser from the start of the season is Brody Saccoccia. 

Ryan Bennett had a rather volatile time in the rankings this season. But he finishes strongly in the top 15 with a Doc B title and Ohio state title.

Marcus Blaze had the biggest moment of the season beating NCAA finalist Matt Ramos. While he fell just short to Ben Davino at Ironman, he ends his junior year as the top wrestler from the state.

As expected, St Edward leads the way with 5 and Perrysburg is next with 4.
