Chris Ayres was named the new head coach for Stanford wrestling on September 11, 2023. His first season with the Cardinal will mark his 18th season as an NCAA D1 head coach.
Prior to Stanford, he was a four-time Ivy League Coach of the Year over 17 seasons leading the Princeton Tigers.
His career record is 93-168, but includes the Tigers first individual champion since 1951 (Pat Glory) and the first two four-time All-Americans in program history. He also let Princeton to its first Ivy League title since the early 80’s.
Under Ayres, the Tigers won 10 EIWA individual titles and placed in the top 5 at EIWAs from 2016-22. Princeton has earned 48 bids to the NCAA Championships since 2010.
